Mother Church of St. Mary of the Angels
Once
called the Church of the Annunziata,
was renamed and became a parish church in 1843.

On August 14, 1910, four days after his ordination,
Padre Pio celebrated his first mass here.
In
this church is honoured the patron of Pietrelcina, the Madonna
della Libera.
The statue of Our Lady is made of wood in the style of old Neapolitan
craftsmanship.
It was crowned with a golden tiara
on August
6, 1966.
In December of 1854 it is believed that Our
Lady
saved the town from a devastating cholera outbreak,
which had already claimed many lives.
The Madonna della Libera is remembered
on December 3 and
on the first Sunday in August.
